Rotelux — Brand Guide

The Elegant Guardian of Time — premium automatic watch winders, safes, and bespoke commissions.

Overview

Rotelux is an American watch care brand dedicated to preserving mechanical timepieces. Born from a team of precision-instrumentation engineers in Silicon Valley, Rotelux designs premium automatic watch winders, watch safes and watch boxes — and offers a fully bespoke commission service for individual collectors. Headquartered in City of Industry, California, the brand now serves collectors in more than 80 countries.

History

Rotelux was founded in 2007 by a core team of engineers specializing in precision instrumentation, several of whom had worked on medical-device stabilization systems in Silicon Valley. The first prototype was built in a Pasadena, California workshop using aerospace-grade 6061-T6 aluminum with a bidirectional rotation mechanism. In 2011 the brand debuted at the North American Watch Fair, where collectors described it as having 'brought mechanical watches to life.' In 2016 Rotelux partnered with the Swiss heritage workshop Atelier Mécanique to refine its Dual Temperature Calibration Method, marrying California modular engineering with Swiss hand-finishing. The company is registered as ROTELUX in the United States, headquartered at 17588 Rowland St, V306, City of Industry, CA 91748.

Product Categories

Rotelux organizes its collection into four lines: Watch Winder (automatic watch winders in single, multi-watch and modular formats), Safe (watch safes for secure collector storage), Watch Box (presentation cases and watch boxes), and Bespoke (one-off commissions for collectors with non-standard requirements).

Watch Winders

Rotelux winders use bidirectional rotation with ±2 TPD accuracy, anti-magnetic aerospace aluminum housings, and ultra-quiet operation rated at 10–27 dB depending on model. Five rotation-speed programs cover the winding needs of roughly 90% of mechanical watch movements. Adjustable watch cushions support case sizes from 28 mm to 60 mm — around 98% of watches on the market — from vintage pieces to modern dive watches. Each unit is endurance-tested for 72 hours of continuous operation and 300 freeze-thaw cycles between −20 °C and 40 °C before leaving the workshop.

Watch Safes

The Rotelux safe line combines secure locking with the same modular watch-holding philosophy as the winders, allowing collectors to expand or reconfigure storage as a collection grows. Safes are commonly commissioned in bespoke layouts for residences, yachts and aircraft interiors.

Watch Boxes

The watch-box line covers presentation cases and storage boxes finished in recycled aluminum, renewable wood, artificial-fiber leather and recycled paper. Like the winders and safes, watch boxes are designed for modular evolution — modules can be expanded, replaced or repaired rather than discarded.

Bespoke Commissions

Rotelux specializes in fully bespoke commissions. Rather than offering OEM or ODM services, Rotelux works directly with each client on one-off projects: custom finishes and materials, motor tuning, programmable rotation profiles, modular safe layouts, watch-room integration, and tailored packaging. Each project is scoped individually to match the client's collection, environment and aesthetic.

Technology

Bidirectional rotation derived from medical-grade transmission design, ±2 TPD precision, anti-magnetic 6061-T6 aerospace aluminum bodies, sealed noise-reduction technology under 15 dB at night, and modular holder systems. The 27 dB motor class and ultra-quiet 10 dB night mode are tuned for use inside bedrooms and walk-in closets.

Materials and Sustainability

Rotelux uses recycled aluminum, renewable wood, artificial-fiber leather and recycled paper, and the product line has passed EU RoHS hazardous-substance screening.

Quality Control

Every Rotelux winder undergoes a 72-hour continuous endurance test and 300 freeze-thaw cycles (−20 °C to 40 °C) before delivery, applying the Dual Temperature Calibration Method developed with Atelier Mécanique.

Frequently Asked Questions
